Cannot boot XP after update of Rescue and Recovery 4

#1 Post by zeedi » Tue Mar 06, 2007 4:23 pm

Hi

System: T60 2007 v36, Dualboot: Debian Linux, WinXP Pro, Bootloader: Grub.

Sunday, I updated my "Rescue and Recovery" to the actual version 4. For that I used the Thinkvantage update Software under WinXP.
After that update, I wantet to reboot my system. But the MBR was dammaged. (I couldn't boot from the hard disk). So I restored the MBR (with konppix live-CD) from a backup-copy I made some weeks ago.
After that, booting of Debian Linux works fine again.
But Windows XP still isn't able to start. Instead of windows xp, it starts the rescue and recovery software. Can please somebody give me a hint to solve this problem?

Thank you for every post.

Solved the Problem this morning:

1. In BIOS SATA set to compatibility mode
2. boot from XP installation Disc
3. Install XP to the old system parition. But leave it untouched (no changes like formating).
4. let copy files and abort installation
5. after reboot press "F8" and choose "last good configuration"
6. set SATA back to right mode in BIOS
7. copy MBR with the grub bootloader to MBR.
