What memory to my T43 ?

#1 Post by masterus » Wed Mar 07, 2007 12:14 am

Hi

Just decided to upgraded my T43 RAM up to 1GB(no,I'm not going to instal Vista) so need small advice:
What memory will be the best :?:
- Crucial
- Corsair
- Samsung
- Kingston
- other brand :?: if yes what's the name :?:
For me the most important is speed.

Thanx for any info.
Regards

Any one of those makers will be fine. You could also consider the following:

Micron (same as Crucial)
Hynix
Mitsubishi
Elpida
ProMOS (I'm an employee of a subsidiary)
...can't think of any more off the top of my head...

The speed shouldn't matter as long as you use at least what IBM has specified for your machine. That would be PC2-4200 (533Mhz) CL4 DDR2 memory. I don't believe that putting faster rated memory inside your T43 will make it run faster (ala most desktop motherboards). The only benefit that I can see in doing that (using faster memory) is that it may run more reliably since you aren't pushing it near the rated (i.e., tested and guaranteed) speed.

edit: I should clarify that I'm talking about the actual memory chips that are on the module. Some (most?) module manufacturers do not actually fab the memory ICs that are on the board. The ones I have listed, along with Crucial and Samsung do.

Any of those should be fine, and then some. I think this is a pretty good deal for 1GB PC5300 at $65, and Vista will gladly take more than 1GB:

If you don't want to spend the extra for the 1GB stick, you can grab the 512mb for $35.

Speed is not of a concern for you since you you cannot adjust your timings or FSB. As mentioned above, getting faster rated memory will only aid in stability, and the PC5300 won't run you more than the PC4200.

Would that work in my T41? That is a killer price.
