Warranty nearly over and I have a T4x: What should I do?
Warranty nearly over and I have a T4x: What should I do?
My machine's warranty is nearly over within months. It's going to get me worried, I liked the machine while getting savings to travel (not trying to spend another machine). As the history of this machine, I had replaced the motherboard (from the flex problems) twice while my LCD replaced once of it distorted display. Another minor problem is I've weird problem: my X, C, V, S, I keys felt lose on two different keyboards already, but I'm too ashame to request another keyboard (perhaps the screws under the machine?)
As of today, my machine is fine except there's this brown area (bottom half of the LCD) appears alike pictures "fading" in movies - I'm not sure that's even a problem.
Please give away your suggestions and comments.
Thank you.

These are the specs of your T41:
P M 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024X768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, 802.11a/b/g wireless(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip(TCPA), 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
It's worth only about $450 right now. When the warranty expires in several months, it will probably be worth only $400, so I don't think it's worth extending the warranty. Try to get Lenovo to fix all problems before the end of the warranty, and start using the laptop more carefully, e.g. stop picking it up by grabbing one of the palmrest corners. After the warranty has ended, sell it for $400 and look for a used T42 or T43 that still has one or two years of warranty remaining.

Re: Warranty nearly over and I have a T4x: What should I do?
If you bought your machine with a credit card you may be entitled to an extra year of warranty for free. Visa has a program called "Warranty Manager" and there are similar programs with other card issuers. Under this program your warranty is extended by up to an additional year, for free. Check your credit card statements or receipts to find how you paid for this item and then read your credit card legal benefits agreement to see if you qualify.cantsleep wrote:My machine's warranty is nearly over within months. Under this program they typically will reimburse you for expenses over this additional year. The extra year of coverage mirrors the coverage you got from Lenovo or IBM. If you qualify for this coverage, you don't need to do anything now, however if you are paranoid you can register the product with warranty service so that if you file a claim later you won't have to document the purchase. You need to call them to get the form and then you need to submit a copy of your receipt and credit card statement showing the charge to the dept. that handles this for your credit card issuer. A couple of phone calls to your bank or issuer will clear this up.

Get your LCD and keyboard replaced while the machine is still covered.
Laptops on some ways are like cars. If you know who has used it and how then through some extent you can trust the general health of the unit. From your description it sounds like you have taken care of it through all these years.
I would recommend against wasting good money on getting the warranty extended for an already obsolete product. Why not use it till it dies if you don't have an urgent need to upgrade your computing power. The money saved could be used towards purchasing a more up to date machine down the road or perhaps add more RAM in it if you are going to keep it.

I think most of the credit card company warranties will only double a warranty up to one year max (ie two years total - at least that's how mine works).

I'm going to go against some of the other posts here and suggest you extend the warranty.
It will only cost you $110 per year to extend it up to 2 additional years, seems like cheap insurance to me and it adds to the residual value should you eventually decide to sell it.
