Ah, forgot about that one... okay, I stand corrected... a "two-hit wonder"

I looked pretty quickly at the list so I may have missed some; any Elvis; Presley or Costello?
As far as guitar players go, it's a tough call. I'm a big Hendrix fan, but I can appreciate other styles of playing. Flamenco guitarists are talented, but you can't compare them to Hendrix. Cobain kind of had that head banging style of play, I didn't think he could sing or play that well at all, but that Nirvana grows on you; a basic, almost primal kind of electric music.
Missed the Clash album. London Calling was a biggie. Great album, another one that grows on you.
Forgot Frampton Comes Alive, wasn't that the biggest selling live album of all time? Seen him live a couple times, he puts on a good show.
What about Motown; Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops?

How about definitive keyboardist? My choice would probably go to Keith Emerson or Ray Manzarek.
For definitive drummer, that's a little harder. I believe my favorite is Ringo Starr. (Did I catch anyone by surprise with this choice?)
I had the good fortune to see Ringo Starr and his 4th All Star Band in 1998 at Fiddler's Green in Denver. Fiddler's Green is an outdoor auditorium with assigned theater seating and general admission for the grassy area. Me and my wife had seats in the center, in row K. Ringo Starr was joined by: Gary Brooker (keyboardist & vocalist - Procol Harum), Jack Bruce (bass guitarist & vocalist - Cream), Peter Frampton (lead guitarist & vocalist), and Simon Kirke (drummer & background vocalist - Free and Bad Company). What a concert! The best I have been to! The hits circled around the band, with hits from each of the band members. When they got ready to do "White Room", Ginger Baker came up from the audience and played using Simon Kirke's drum set. I was tranported back in time...
A year later I heard a local radio station DJ still talking about that concert...

Emerson, for sure.GomJabbar wrote:How about definitive keyboardist? My choice would probably go to Keith Emerson or Ray Manzarek.
Keith Moon or John Bonham for sheer intensity. Ron Bushy (Iron Butterfly) and Butch Trucks and Jaimoe (Allman Brothers) honorable mention for long songs, 17 (In-a-gadda-da-vida) and 33 (Mountain Jam) minutes, respectively.GomJabbar wrote:For definitive drummer, that's a little harder. I did see the Jackson's, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, and Aretha Franklin in the OP's Top 200 list. I already mentioned War and Sly & the Family Stone. I also like some of the work of all the others just mentioned above. Who can forget songs like: Back Stabbers, Reach Out I'll Be There, Love Child, Superfly, R.E.S.P.E.C.T., Let's Stay Together, What's Going On, Higher Ground, Brick House, Billie Jean, & All For You?What about Motown; Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops?

James...I hate to disappoint, but I had to google them to find out who they were....they broke up the year that I was worn. I am vaguely familiar with some of the songs.JHEM wrote:Steve, you and Ray and Dave will appreciate, WTH is Mountain?
Ray, they weren't a "one hit wonder", because apparently they have 3 gold albums. And sorry...I did quote you...rkawakami wrote:I think a "one-hit wonder"... "Mississippi Queen comes to mind", but don't quote me.
