Received my X-60 am I happy? Not at the moment.
I received my X-60 to replace my X-40. The only thing I did not like about my X-40, is that it was slow. The X-60 has rectified that problem but at a cost. The X-60 is loud and hot. Because it's hot the noisy fan runs all the time. In addition the heat is uncomfortable on my lap. Has anyone come up with a solution. I do not want to slowing everything down on the X-60 to remove the heat.
Slow speed or noise and heat, what's worse????

Which X60 model (and CPU) do you have? What power mode are you running in? Are you running Windows XP or Vista? What are the actual temperatures (using NHC (XP only) or RMClock)?

yes,
in fact, X60s is cooler,
i am using Vodafone 3G broadband here, with ambient Temp ~30degC.
with the use of Fan control, the idle CPU temp at 55degC. while the palm rest, for sure get little bit warmer but it very much bearable for me.
CPU clock: 1.66Ghz (LV)
Does the Vista matter in the Temperature, will it getting higher or lower with this OS?

I owned an X60s and it was the hottest laptop I had ever used. It's hard to imagine that the X60 can be even hotter! For this reason, I still think that the best CPU for ultraportable laptops is the ULV Pentium M.gunston wrote:in fact, X60s is cooler
My T60 is fairly hot too. I cool down the palmrest a little bit by setting the wireless card's power consumption to the lowest level. This probably won't solve the OP's problem though because s/he is comlaining about the heat coming from the bottom of the laptop.

There must be some extreme variation in the warmth of X60s's in that case, because my X60s is far cooler than other laptops I have used (Inspiron 4100, Powerbook G4 aluminium 12"). I can leave it on my lap indefinitely without discomfort (frequently while running scientific numeric codes at full blast), whereas I could not say they same about the others.pianowizard wrote:I owned an X60s and it was the hottest laptop I had ever used. Or maybe the other laptops you have used were very different to the ones I have used?
I'll admit that the right palmrest of the X60s is sometimes a bit annoyingly warm, but overall it's a much cooler machine that the others I've used.

I have a 1706 model running the same 1.8 cpu and windows XP. I was very worried it would be hot when I purchased it, but it is perfectly fine. The only heat I feel is on the right side of the palmrest and it is just warm, not hot by any means. It is slightly warmer when it's plugged in vs. running on battery. I have never felt warmth coming from the bottom onto my lap.
I haven't altered my power usage settings (it's set at factory default) and I have my wireless antenna on all the time.
It's strange that some of these get hot and some don't, almost like luck of the draw?

I almost never put my laptops on my lap though, so I was only referring to my X60s's palmrest heat. None of the other ~35 laptops I have owned generated so much palmrest heat.lev wrote:my X60s is far cooler than other laptops I have used (Inspiron 4100, Powerbook G4 aluminium 12"). On the other hand, I use my X31 on my lap very frequently -- while I usually do not rest my hands on the palmrest!pianowizard wrote:I almost never put my laptops on my lap though, so I was only referring to my X60s's palmrest heat. I have an x60s and it only gets slightly warm, even when running on AC. The fan is rarely on and is very quiet.jmt wrote:I received my X-60 to replace my X-40. Unfortunately, it isn't very fast compared to the athlon x2 I use at work.

How much RAM do you have in that X60s? Also, upgrading to a 7200rpm HDD should help quite a bit.rja wrote:Unfortunately, it isn't very fast compared to the athlon x2 I use at work.
