1GB Crucial Ram PC5300
1GB Crucial Ram PC5300
Hi,
Looks like crucial has the 1GB ram PC 5300 at $85, which I think seems an okay deal here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145048 .
My thinkpad currently has the Hynix (I think I spelled that right) 1gb stick installed, leaving me 1 slot free. Can I just buy this crucial memory, pop it in the t60, and have everything working just fine? Seems to me that I can, but Im curious as I have never had a DDR2 laptop, which Ive read works better in pairs (but not sure if brand/configurations matters???).
Thanks![/url]

The RAM is made by Crucial (Micron), but that is now who you linked (
). Buying from Crucial directly would be a LOT more expensive.
Now, as long as the speed on BOTH modules is PC2-5300 CL5 (that last part is important) they will play nice with each other.

Quite a few forum members purchased the 1GB G. Skill PC2-5300 SODIMM and have had no problems. Newegg lowered its price many times in the last few weeks and it's now only $68 shipped. If you wait for a few more weeks, it might drop even further!

Yes, the max on the T60 is supposed to be 3GB through some sort of windows limitation, even though the intel chipset supports 4GB, and windows xp pro supports 4GB. I heard the reason windows may only recognize 3 of the 4GB is due to some sort of integrated graphics memory, but I really have not researched it too much, mainly because to get the 4GB of memory requires around $500!
Here's some good info posted today on the 3GB/4GB issue:
http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000811.html
One of the comments says that some systems don't support 4GB even with a 64-bit OS. I don't know if that's true, or if it applies ot the T60. Anyone here know?
If I could get 4GB running on my T60, I would dump my worstation completely. I do a lot of testing in virtual machines - the more RAM the better.
