System Update Broken

Dear everyone,

Great forum and great threads! I'm having a problem with System Update 3.0:

Same problem here. System Update upgraded itself seamlessly to v3 (version: 3.00.0028, build date: 2007-2-12 to be exact) and v3 won't work. Funny thing though: SysUpdate doesn't get closed after the error message, but the progress bar gets to 95% and stalls.

I removed SU from add/remove programs and reinstalled it - nothing changed.

I have exactly the same problem as tyger, and I've tried some of the suggestions from the other posters but no luck so far.

I did the big clean install as suggested by gt5l, I have made sure my Server service is switched on under Administrative Tools/Services/,

Essentially everything runs pretty smoothly, TVSU3.0 updates itself, and downloads the package - the problem is that it hangs while "Processing Package Information" - this is at around 95% of progress.

My system is a T41p / XPPro SP2 (latest updates downloaded) / Windows Firewall / AVG Free Edition / I'm part of a Workgroup at work; nothing else very exotic.

I know I don't really need to have TVSU3.0 working, but as a previous poster said, it's so ANNOYING to know it's there and that it's stuffed!

Anyone have any suggestions?

1. Software Installer (v4.01.0615) does not see v3 of System Update, it only sees v2
2. System Update v2 doesn't work. After the initial (very long) splash screen, it just dissapears. Task Manager says it's still there, but I cannot see it.
3. Installing System Update v3 from the web site, doesn't work either. Same symptoms as v2.

I tried everything mentioned above...
btw - I'm on Win XP SP2 Pro
