OH Well...so much for NBD On site and TPP!!! X60 T TOAST-SOL
Today on my way out from work (work late hours..it was dark) I slipped on some ice and landed flat on my back....
Still hurting, my neck is a little sore and cut my hand (HOW I DO NOT KNOW!!) the cut is small (1") but it is DEEP...no big deal....
However, the X60 T was in my backpack and it DID NOT survive the impact...I have a cracked screen, erratic video and busted plastics. I contacted IBM, they have no record of the TPP and NBD on-site warranty...so I have to fax all that in and will not get the machine serviced until Monday...BUT..they can only dispatch 4 PARTS per incident (lcd -display-, inverter, LCD cable) so this "LCD KIT" counts as three parts; I have to open another call for any other parts that I need and get it serviced the following day and so on....or my other option is to send it to SOLECTRON....my last resort!!!
I talked about sending it in to a local repair shop authorized by IBM/Lenovo...I was told that IBM/Lenovo NO LONGER PAYS FOR LABOR to authorized repair centers for machines under warranty and that will have to come out of pocket!!! So much for the GREAT IBM SERVICE we once had....
Anyways, a heads up for anyone having to get their machines fixed...
UPDATE..SOL=SOLECTRON (read my previous posts regarding THEM)
Well after a week of battling for the TPP (their system has not updated that the TPP and NBD is active- How is this MY FAULT has not been clarified-) and my TPP receipt shows NO SERVICE TAG so this is somehow MY FAULT as well!!!
So until all the problems I somehow caused..are worked out, they allowed a ONE TIME exception to get it serviced...well the damage is WORSE than previously posted...need base assembly, palmrest, LCD top cover, LCD and LCD bezel. This is about 10 parts and they can only ship 4 (somehow MY FAULT again)...so they can't do OTHER calls with the ONE TIME exception...my only option...SOLECTRON...so Thursday, the X60 T will begin a new journey...fingers crossed...

I am sorry to hear about this incident. The exact same thing happened to me about 4 years ago, but my old Umax laptop (made in 1997) survived it perfectly fine.draco2527 wrote:Today on my way out from work (work late hours..it was dark) I slipped on some ice and landed flat on my back....
It's one of the things that IBM/Lenovo had to cut to make the prices of Thinkpads more competitive.draco2527 wrote:I was told that IBM/Lenovo NO LONGER PAYS FOR LABOR to authorized repair centers for machines under warranty and that will have to come out of pocket!!! That is pretty ridiculous. TPP is supposed to be for incidents just like that. It looks like it would be better to get insurance from an external company.draco2527 wrote:T

Well, this has turned into something interesting!!
I did the post here (X60 T Toast) and posted some of my reservations regarding my troubles with Solectron at the Lenovo Blogs website....and guess what, not only did they post my comments...someone was following me around...between sites...
As it turns out, this particular person wants to know more about my headaches with Solectron, my service as it stands with the X60 Tablet and if I am the same individual posting in both sites! I did not reference this site at all on my Blog postings. Maybe not all eyes on this site are bad...
I will say this; I DO NOT WANT ANY INTERVENTION AT THIS TIME from Lenovo-regarding this incident-(but it is appreciated and valued)...WHY? Simple...
- Based on prior experiences with Solectron, intervention from an internal source might help in providing "inaccurate" or "false" positive results!(Not that it did last time, after months of headaches I guess that IBM felt so bad for me they cut me a check! for $160 and THEY OFFERED...)I don't want to be singled out for service when other people out there get the shaft. My noise making is to try for someone at Lenovo to listen and maybe improve the quality of service to all involved...and keep the ThinkPad line and heritage around for as long as possible!
PS: If he wants a long term Guinea Pig, willing to work for ThinkPad’s (part time basis!!)...count me in!!
Sorry, can't help myself sometimes...Anyways...
At the expense of my time and patience, I will be willing to take this on as a test. Yes, he has my email; but I am sure that he will not overstep my request as a customer and get involved in this case, at least until all the facts are in!
I will not post his identity without his permission (I hope he is the real deal) but I will give you part of his title:
WW Customer Satisfaction Programs
Lenovo
Not sure if he will pass my experience up the food chain..but it is worth a shot...
I think that having this type of presence shows that at least things are headed in the right direction for Lenovo. I guess time will tell!
Also he wanted me to know that I was provided with the wrong information:
... Lenovo does continue to reimburse warranty authorized business partners to provide warranty service, just as we have always. We do encourage them to engage the depot if more than several service parts are required, and the same holds true for onsite coverage. ...
So with that said, my box is due to arrive today(Thursday)! If I had a little more time to transfer some of my HD files, I would send the complete unit...but I am not ready for that yet, so as barebones as possible it goes out!!
Keep in mind that the X60 T is barely past the 30 day mark, also it is in like new condition (minus a few cracks-LOL!) as far as screw heads, labels and plastics in good alignment (but cracked) so we will see what comes back!
Unit seems to function fine with an external monitor; this includes FP authentication for Power-on and Domain authentication as well as keyboard, trackpoint and WiFi. The HD seems to have survived as well, however I have yet to test. Since the machine was powered off and the heads parked, I doubt there is any permanent damage. Had the impact been worse to the HD, the platters would have shattered into a million pieces...then I would be SOL!
I still have the flickering problem on the X41 T and will be sending that in as well...so we will see what happens...

First, yes the person you heard from at Lenovo is legitimate.draco2527 wrote:Keep in mind that the X60 T is barely past the 30 day mark, also it is in like new condition (minus a few cracks-LOL!) as far as screw heads, labels and plastics in good alignment (but cracked) so we will see what comes back!
Second, for folks who suffer a similar loss who don't have the TPP coverage, if purchased with a credit card a unit less than 30 days old might be eligible to be replaced in its entirety under loss coverage provided by the credit card company.
Just something to bear in mind. I've had very good responses over the years to catastrophic losses on purchases I've made with my Amex card, most recently when a gazebo I had purchased as a housewarming gift for my younger daughter and her husband was destroyed by high winds two weeks after purchase. Amex refunded the purchase price without question.

Motherboard-

Two days and I can't get a straight answer on when the LCD will be available...

Well, I got the ThinkPad back on Tuesday...03/27!
My LCD bezel is still cracked..they replaced the memory cover -NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FIRST ONE!- but they did not replace the cracked bezel (sorry angry..repeating myself..)
The cover that has the bottom right screw on the LCD cover, the Technician that fixed it JAMMED a screwdriver in it -IF THE TECH IS READING..IBM MADE A LITTLE CUT OUT, SO YOU CAN INSERT YOUR SCREWDRIVER IN IT AN POP THE COVER-WITHOUT DAMAGING THE PLASTICS-CAP/COVER- I had to use a razor blade and trim the plastics that were sticking out, as they NICKED my finger each and every time I used the biometrics-
I guess the same "Tech" destroyed my "hinge cover" since I got a new one.
Have a missing base foot...it was there when it left for Solectron...
I guess the WORST thing is my FAN...IT SOUNDS LIKE A TIN CAN- everytime it kicks on!!
I have been on a "cool-off" period for a while, I will be giving Lenovo a call tomorrow.
Everything else seems OK, the base was not replaced, the motherboard was...I had to "re-register" some applications since my "configuration has changed"
Replacement LCD had NO DEAD/STUCK pixels, so glad about that!!
They also used the OLD screw covers on the LCD BEZEL, so it looks "GREAT"...
Overall, A LOT better than expected, but not 100%. Another interesting fact is that the LCD wooble is still present...This was there from DAY 1, from other members posts, some have it some do not!!
