2631 Dock problem
2631 Dock problem
I have a 2631 dock bought off eBay.
It was working flawlessly. Have a USB 2.0 PC card in it, no UltraBay 2000 devices.
Last night, shut down.
This morning, booted - my USB mouse isn't working. Then I notice the fan isn't on and the laptop says it is operating on battery. Ethernet is working however.
It seems that purely pass through stuff works (such as ethernet) - but nothing that requires power from the dock works.
I checked outlet, it is fine. removed power cable from dock and reconnected several times.
Is there a common issue that is easy to fix, or do i need to eBay another dock?
I suspect power supply - I suspect a used dock is cheaper than power supply, but if there are any known issues with a simply fix, I'd like to know.
EDIT-
2631 dock. Don't know what I was smokin' with 2130 ... I hate parts named with numbers.

First, what is your computer? You don't say. Please state model numbers as well. (Put the info in your PROFILE!!)
Secondly, there are two versions of the 2631: 2631-10U and 2631-20U, they differ in the models of ThinkPads accepted. Look on the bottom of the docking station for the full model number.

If it's any help: I have a 2631 docking station, P/N 02K8660, FRU 02K8666, that works with both my T23 and T30.
The -10U or -20U markings (and a bunch of others) indicate which type of powercord is used, has no meaning otherwise.
On the web I found this:
IBM Thinkpad A , T , X Docking Station 02K8660 / 08N1579 / 263110U / 263120U For A20, A21, A22M, T20, T21, T22, T23, T30 and X series laptops ( 2628 , 2629 , 2647 , 2660 , 2661, 2366, 2367 models ). Not for A21e or R30 or any other R series

If you need a dock for a T4x, you will need the Docking Station II, P/N 74P6733 or another replicator. For a full list of available options:

On a different note, can anybody tell me what the port is for on the right of the 2 USB-ports? It looks like a full Firewire port, and is normally covered by a rectangular piece of plastic.

Yeah It's a firewire port, but it only works with the Thinkpads that have it on themselves (as I have sadly found out the hard way).realblackstuff wrote:On a different note, can anybody tell me what the port is for on the right of the 2 USB-ports? AFIK TP Docks have never had firewire ports. If my memory is correct you are refering to a port that is almost an inch long and maybe 1/4 inch high, this is for the IBM External Floppy Drive Housing which could be used externally. I'll have a look on tuesday, I've got one of those Docks in the office.realblackstuff wrote:Yeah It's a firewire port, but it only works with the Thinkpads that have it on themselves (as I have sadly found out the hard way).On a different note, can anybody tell me what the port is for on the right of the 2 USB-ports? Actually............. The first ThinkDock (2631) and I mean the earlier ones, had one Firewire port, and it was the 6 pin. It looked like a rectangle with a triangle tip. It is located directly to the left (or right) of the 2 usb ports. It came covered by a piece of plastic, and was removed in the later models. Nonetheless, it was still there.
If you like, I can supply a picture of this firewire port on the back of my 2631 dock.

Thanx, but I don't believe that will be necessary. I had a good surf around the support sites today and found some interesting information: In a product description they say that ieee1394 is not supported in the dock, but in the video you can see it blanked out as you said in your post. After seeing that I decided you must be right.Andersonjoe711 wrote:Actually............. The first ThinkDock (2631) and I mean the earlier ones, had one Firewire port, and it was the 6 pin.
