T42 2378fvu (2200BG) with Windows 2003

#1 Post by puco » Thu Sep 23, 2004 12:38 am

I installed Windows 2003 on my T42 a got running everything except the wireless card (Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG) and I have one Unknown device in the device (I suspect it's the infraport, since I can't find it in Device Manager)

Is here someone, who was able to get this card running under Windows 2003? The driver for Windows XP doesn't work. It can't be installed with setup.exe (The application is not supported in this operating system). I can install the driver through Device Manager - Update Driver, then the driver is installed (although it returns an error while installing) but the card still doesn't work in Windows/IBM Access Connections (but Netstmbler for example works)

Any help appriciated

The drivers are the same, there is only onle to download from IBM and both are in same directory - to only difference seems that there are files W22N50.SYS and W22N51.SYS for w2k and XP. You think I should rename W22N50.SYS to W22N51.SYS?

update:
I did that, and the driver seems to be running. The IBM Access Connections can work with it, the Fn+F5 works and so does the Wireless Indicator under the LCD. Unfortunately I have no wireless network/devices around to test it now. Will post back results later.

I'm just curious as to why you would want to run win2k3 on a Thinkpad. Isn't that more suited for a stand-alone server?
Please don't take this as a snike comment. I'm just very curious.

to muffd: I'm a web developer and I need the IIS 6 that comes with W2k3 and some other features. So I need it.

But more importantly: PROBLEM RESOLVED. Now my wireless card works without any problems.

I used the 8.1.0.25 driver. Renamed the file WLANCX2\PROW2200\WIN2K_XP\W22N50.SYS to W22N51.SYS. And hen installed the driver.

Now I need only to find out what the Unknown device in Device menager is. Is here someone with Windows 2003 who knows what devices were undetected on the clean installation?

did you install the IBM power management/ACPI driver? That is something that you have to add in XP as well, otherwise you get a random unknown device.

Win2k3 Server on a thinkpad

Maybe a better option would be to run the server OS under VMware, instead of fighting with driver incompatabilities.

Cheers,

I have IBM power management installed.

Also to 2200BG - you have to have the Sebring API installed from APPS\API\SEBRINGAPI.EXE

I'm thinking of upgrading too. It's basically a clean version of Windows XP. And if you follow this guide, it should be pretty much identical:
