Backing up the T41
Backing up the T41
Ok so I loaded Vista Ultimate on my T41. I already have a set of CD's I created for it. So going back to xp should I decide to is not a problem.
Now I would like to do the same thing for my Vista install. I would like some form of bootable media (preferably on CD/DVD) that I can boot and it will do it's thing. Completely reset up my install as it is currently configured.
Can I download and run Rescue and Recovery to do this?
I also have the trial version of Acronis True Image installed. Can this do it? If so, I would need a walkthrough.
Caveat: My T41 does not have a DVD burner. So the ability to create a .ISO file and burn it on my desktop machine would be icing on the cake.
Basically, I want to boot off the disc, hit restore. Wait. Reboot. Boom, Vista is backup. Just like it works for the discs created by R&R.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm,
just checked the Lenovo site and there does not seem to be a version of R&R for Vista. Can I use the XP version?

UPDATE:
I have found the Vista has a backup option. It will allow me to back up the entire machine to a couple of DVD's and restore from there. So tomorrow I will go buy an external DVD burner and give it a shot. I am just posting this to let others know. I will keep you guys updated for creating Vista recovery discs as I learn more about the process.

Vista to the rescue!
I used Vista's built in backup tool to make a hard drive image. It took 2 DVD's. To restore:
1. Boot off the Vista DVD
2. Go into the recovery console
3. Recover using the media you created
I just tested it out and it works great.
Now to load up Fedora on the laptop after I resize the partition.

It did in my case. However I didn't have much installed. Just firefox and a few of the thinkvantage apps. Nothing huge like office or adobe cs.
