T21 memory
T21 memory
I read on this forum that my T21 could support 2 x 256 Mb of memory. When plugging in these 2 memory sticks, the laptop boots and immediately gives me an error "pci.sys file is damaged". I could try to repair with the XP disk, it says.
I tried this, but no way. However, in the bios I can see the 512 Mb of ram.
Laptop boots now with 1 x 256 and 1 x 128.
Anyone an idea about these 2 x 256 please?
Many thanks !

You know when I upgraded mine to 512MB RAM, I bought two 256 sticks of IBM stock and when I inserted them and tried to boot, I also got an error message and it said that I could try to repair by using the Windows CD (which I don't have). I powered down and re-inserted both sticks, making sure to wedge them in at an angle firmly before clipping them down. I screwed on the cover and booted and this time all went well, no error message and Windows shows 512RAM. That was 3 months ago.
Good luck
Good luck

Assuming that you have not also recently changed any PCI devices on your system (I guess that would mean the MiniPCI card in the bottom of the T21), then Microsoft recommends that you remove your memory:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330181
to troubleshoot the "pci.sys" problem.
And again, assuming that you are using the proper low-density modules that tfflivemb2 has mentioned, you can also download memtest86+ and test each module that you have. It may be that one of your modules is just good enough to pass the laptop's POST (power on self test) but has an error that Windows is detecting.
