Hello all,
I am looking to upgrade the stock hard drive in my Z60M, and I think I have narrowed it down to two choices on newegg:
Seagate Momentus ST910021AS
or
Hitachi Travelstar 7k100
As you can see from the listings, both are the same price, but the Hitachi only carries a 1 year warranty compared to 5 years for the Seagate.
I've been reading quite a bit on the forum and review sites about the minor speed advantage of the Hitachi. Is it worth the extra risk in the shorter warranty? I've also seen hints of the Hitachi drives being more compatible with Thinkpads. Is there a compelling reason to go with one or the other?
Also, having been out of the loop for a while on the latest tech releases, is there anything new coming along soon that I should hold off on the upgrade for?
Thanks,
Jake

I think Newegg has the warranty info wrong.
And, yes, right now the 7K100 is really the drive of choice.

yep, the 7K100 is the way to go. You might want to hold off for a few months until Hitachi releases the new 7K100 with flash memory integrated, but I have no info regarding the date of its debut
