I may give Craigslist a try if I can't sell it here or on eBay. I'm 15 minutes from St. Louis so location wouldn't be a problem.

I've just received decent imitation of a PayPal e-mail saying that the highest bidder has made a payment to my account. Of course my account doesn't reflect this, but I was reassured by this statement:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PAYMENT WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE "PENDING" TAB IN YOUR ACCOUNT UNTIL YOU SEND THE SHIPPING REFERENCE NUMBER TO US.
This is due to new policies at PayPal to protect both the buyer and the seller in the face of the growing number of fraudulent activities perpetrated via the internet. Your payment is intact. You are encouraged to complete this transaction."

I guess it's perfectly safe for me to ship the laptop now, huh?

I've always wanted to know how these scammers expect people to send out their items without getting paid. Seems to be the oldest trick in the book; "trust me!, everything is fine!". I'm curious... to what country is the shipping address?

I got no response from the second bidder about the second chance offer, so I guess the laptop's up for sale again here. :)

True, but the point of Craiglist is that you can SEE the item first. Yes, there are some forum members that I can trust to "check it out" for me, but then once you add the shipping cost to it and a little extra for the middle man, you might as well deal with eBay and have PayPal involved.

Now for the OP, he would be trying to SELL it in Craigslist, which wouldn't be fair to post it in an area where you don't reside.

Try lowering the price a little. As nice of a computer your T23 is, most people would go for a T30 or T40 for that figure. Computers right now are worth considerably less than they were this time last year. Have you done a completed items search for T23s similar to yours? That can give you an idea what to ask for and at what time in the year since computer values shift with the seasons. June and August seem to be good selling times.

Yeah, I guess I might have to lower the price a bit. I've seen less powerful ones without WiFi go for $400-$430 on eBay recently.

I guess I can accept $400 shipped instead of $400 + shipping.

Pricing is really jerky on used computers depending on when and where you sell them. You just have to either plan everything out or just have really lucky timing. I'm sure that T23 would be worth a little more when people start buying for school.

The bottom line is that people won't pay that much for a T23 regardless how loaded it may be, and take this from someone who LOVES T23s and went through dozens of them.

You may want to downgrade your machine before you actually sell it. Do a 128/256 RAM instead of 1G, smaller HDD, simple DVD will do just fine. Most people have no use for a 1G of memory in a T23-or anywhere else if it doesn't come stock. The same goes for 80G drive.

What is killing your sale is the fact that an average T23 can be bought on eBay anywhere from 175-225 plus shipping, and that $300 buys you a machine with integrated wireless, which is the only thing most people care these days. Not to mention that amount of T30s in the $300 range is getting to be scary, and that T40s are going in the same direction.

FYI, I have a X31 listed right now (1.4/512/60), and including a docking station with combo drive am looking for well under $500.

That's a good point, George. Maybe I can come up with a cheaper configuration and offer it at a lower price. I'd have to come up with another hard drive, though. My only spare one is a 5GB drive.

Put a WTB on this board. I suspect a lot of people here have an old 20 or 30gb drive laying around after upgrading. I think I have one but it's noisy so I wouldn't use it any longer.

Yeah...I'd like to avoid buying more stuff to sell this. But I'll keep that in mind.

If I had it configured with 128MB of RAM and a CD-ROM instead of a combo drive, do you guys think I could sell it for $300 shipped?

Quite likely. And you can easily sell the 2x512MB PC133 sticks for $50 each, perhaps even $55.

EDIT: I forgot that you have an 80GB 5400rpm HDD, which is much better than what most T23's have. I should change "quite likely" to "very likely"!

Then I'd sell it like that if someone's interested.

So, $300 shipped for 128MB/80GB/CD-ROM or $400 shipped for 1GB/80GB/DVD/CD-RW.

Either way, the laptop will come with the recovery disks and UB2K battery.
