A31 - device does not start

#1 Post by Boricua65 » Sun Mar 11, 2007 1:49 am

I bought the above and installed it in the A31. I'm getting an error message stating "Error 10 - This device cannot start." Is the wireless mPCI not the right one? Should I have gotten the regular Intel 2915 without the FRU number? TIA for anyone's help.

EDIT: clarification

This "error 10" came up recently in another thread:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=38739

In it I posted this link:

deltatangobravo.com

I don't know if the instructions at that site work or not.

However, I do have this question:

- What is the BIOS version of your A31?

The eBay auction page notes that you must update your BIOS. It also says that the card is for T4x and X32 systems, so I don't know what would prevent it from working in an A31 (never fooled around with the one I use at work).

After I posted last night, I went ahead and updated the BIOS. The embedded controller is now at 1.05 and the BIOS is 1.10 versions. I just tried again a few minutes ago. First I installed the Intel drivers without the other part of the software, then shutdown. Applied the no-1802 error, installed the mPCI, then booted up. It installed the drivers, but still gave me the same error message This device cannot start.

EDIT: I will try the solution of the link you provided. I'll let you know if it does work or not. Thanks, man.

So far this is what I did. I tried the link you posted with no success. I decided on a clean install and used the Win2K disc I have with the mPCI installed. It gave me the same error, and I couldn't adjust anything in the registry because I'm not given the option to set permissions. I wipe the HDD and did a clean install of XP Pro. I went into the registry and set the permissions for full access before installing the wireless card. I installed the Intel software (that is 51 MB) to ensure the correct software drivers, then shut down. Installed the mPCI and still got the same thing. Error 10 - This device cannot start. (sigh) I'm using the Netgear WG511 PC card and installing updates until I can get this resolved some day.

Since there are no other solutions, I went ahead and place this on sale. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=39253
