Flogging a dead horse! (or T22)

#1 Post by Rex » Mon Mar 12, 2007 4:53 am

Hi there,

Some time ago, I posted regarding the blink of death on my T20. This was followed by an interesting thread (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=34200) but there did not seem to be a resolution to the issue.

I have not found the solution either, but this is where I am at.

Followed Ray's advice and removed the main and CMOS batteries; after a few hours, replaced them and my TP started just fine. Everything was fine for a few days and then, the BoD occurred again.

This time, I removed only the main battery. Next day, put it back, plugged the power cable in, and it started fine. And that is what I have been doing. Removing the main battery overnight and replacing it when I want to use the computer. Have found that it also works on mains without the battery.

But is there a better solution, because this battery removal business is a drag.

Grateful for any further advice,

Rex

A new battery maybe ?
I would also consider replacing the cmos battery, I've seen them cause some weird issues as they age...check the expiration date on it too before you buy it. I would also make sure it's the correct battery and not say a lithium in the correct sized case when the oem specs called for something else like a nicad or visaversa :D

I've also seen brand new ones cause problems that were bad out of the bag...
I alway try to go that extra mile at work, problem is the boss always finds me and brings me back

Well, given that the removal of the battery, and running without the battery seems to alleviate the problem....try replacing the main battery. There could be a short in the battery or the connectors where the battery connects to the systemboard, which means that you might want to check those connectors too.

Aside from that, I am not aware of a BoD solution.

Thanks for your replies.

Don't think the batteries are the problem. Changed the CMOS with the one from my T22 during a BoD incident and I still had the BoD. Did the same with the main battery and still had the BoD.

But having 'solved' the problem, removing the main battery every evening and replacing it in the morning, everything seems to be fine; it's just a drag.

Perhaps it's just old age?
