T60 with X1300 - external widescreen display?

I have a T60 with an ATI X1300 graphics card running the stock Windows XP install. I'd like to get an external display to use as a second monitor, but it seems like cheaper LCDs nowadays are 1680x1050, which doesn't appear on the resolutions list for me. It looks like the resolution is within the card's capabilities to drive, since it does handle 1600x1200, but does anyone know if 1680x1050 is actually doable?

It is possible, if you have an external widescreen LCD monitor.

Yes, you can drive 1680x1050 using the T60. I have done it personally without any issues using a advanced mini dock.

shouldnt have problems running a WS display at that res, my T60 (x1400) is powering a 2407WFP @ 1920x1200 no problem at all.

My T60 has 64MB ATI X1300 (same as the OP's) and its VGA port powers my 2407WFP pretty well.

I had posted that I had problems with the external widescreen display. I don't know why others do not see this; all I can think of is that graphic intensive application will cause the problems to appear.

I have also heard that using the advanced dock + additional PCI express GPU installed in the dock will make it perform better in this situation.

Those who are experiencing no troubles:
1) what is the most intense graphic app you run?
2) what is in the advanced dock other than more connections? Or is there indeed an extra GPU there?
