New Computer
New Computer
Hello Everyone,
After years of using my 240X's for proceessing. I decided I needed more speed. I have been redoing my Laser and VHS collections Via VideoRedo and Nero.
The process usually takes 20Hrs! Now, with my new R40 2.0Ghz it
only takes 4Hrs.
Does anyone know if I upgraded from the 4200rpm HD to a 7200rpm;
would it make much difference? Thanks, Mike.

Re: New Computer
Does your 240X really have 256MB of RAM? I thought the limit was 192MB.mas98110 wrote:240X 100GB 256RAM Buffalo WiFi XPP

Hi,
Yes, the 240X has 256RAM. I did a very careful surgical removal of one chip on the motherboard RAM. This disables it and allows you to added a low density 256 Samsung chip.
I learned this from a fellow member who posted the procedure on this site. I was a little concern at first but I have done this 4 times since and it has never has harmed the system. The trick is to get the point of an Exacto knive under each connection and lift.
Make sure to vacuum up any fragments; then just to be safe cover the area with a piece of clear tape.

Re: New Computer
I can only share my experience with my 600X machines from the same era to attempt to answer your question.mas98110 wrote:Does anyone know if I upgraded from the 4200rpm HD to a 7200rpm; would it make much difference?
Upgrading to a 7200RPM HD from the original 4200RPM HD was like getting a brand new machine with a processor that was twice as fast.
Your results will certainly depend on Nero and VideoRedo being able to use the increased HD speed, but in my experience they can and you'd probably knock another hour off your processing time.
