Occuring slow typing

#1 Post by marvel » Mon Mar 12, 2007 1:50 pm

Odd question here: sometimes when I start typing, the text lags significantly. Is it some kind of flaw in multitasking? I haven´t been able do discover what kind of program or process that might cause this. Any ideas?

Thanks //Michal

Please tell us the specs of your computer and what software you're using. Older machines forced to run the latest software often have this problem.

While typing, have the Task Manager open. with the performance tab selected See how much CPU is being used. If it is close to 100% (anywhere from 75-100%), then something is slowing down you system. You can find this out by click on the Processes tab in the task manager and look at what processes are using lots of CPU power. If the user name of the process is other than your user name (IE: System, or Network Service), then it is a Windows based service that has gone astray, most likely automatic updates.

There was a post on something like this before. It had to do with "slow typing" when using a DOS program under WIN2K or XP. I remember because I have the same problem myself.

That said, however, I don't remember the solution, since I decided to live with it (I don't use DOS too much any more). But I'm sure you could search for it (if you situation appears to have any connection to DOS.)

Thanks for advice. I´ll try some of these suggestions. My guess is it´s something to do with background activity and/or task switching.
