Fingerprint and LCD Brightness Vista Questions (X60s)

#1 Post by MrSpike » Mon Mar 12, 2007 8:48 pm

(this is mostly copied and pasted from another thread I started in the X60 forum but somone suggested asking some of the questions here)

So we just got a refurbished X60s for my wife, 1704-69U. I installed Vista Ultimate and added a GB of ram for 2GB total. I installed all the lenovo software I wanted (mostly battery and wireless stuff) and it seems to be up and running very well.

One question I have is with the brightness settings. On battery or AC I can change the brightness settings easily using the fn+home/end but if I got to brightness of 0 and then try to change it again the CPU (both cores) goes to 100%, the comp freezes, and it takes ~5-10 seconds for each level brightness change. It requires multiple key presses for each level change. Any idea what the issue is?

Also, does anyone know how to get the fingerprint reader to work in vista?

I have a Thinkpad Z61m, so I don't know if this helps, but I got my fingerprint reader to work. There was a driver for it on the Lenovo website for the Z61m. I'm not sure, but there should be a driver for it as well for the X60.

As to with your first question, I personally don't have that problem. It's probably not related, but I'd make sure to have the latest firmware for you machine.

Good luck!

If I remember correctly, there was one file for VISTA that said something about being a fingerprint driver and I installed it but so far no dice, windows still says something like "unidentified biometric device" in device manager.

I'll give it a try again when I get home tonight to see if it is just a simple file that I forgot to install or installed in-correctly. Thanks

Brightness Problem

Did you ever find a solution to the brightness problem? I have exactly the same problem on my X60, but haven't been able to find a solution yet. I am running Vista.

After I bring the brightness to the lowest level, then changing the brightness seems to cause the computer to go into fits. The cpu jumps to 100%. It also seems to happen after I sleep the computer. Very annoying...
