N100-no sound after clean XP install

#1 Post by truk » Wed Mar 14, 2007 9:40 pm

I need help, my friend just bought a Lenovo n100 with Vista installed (and sound working). He hated Vista, so I formatted and installed XP SP2. We got everything installed and realized the sound still wasn't working. I assumed that I had forgotten it, so I reinstalled the drivers. Then, I downloaded the QFE patch from Microsoft, uninstalled, and then reinstalled all the drivers. I have tried this, and checked to make sure everything installed, manually too. Even so, I get an error message saying that his hardware is unsupported in the final audio driver. He has a 0768-A52. Anybody have any ideas, because I'm all out.

P.S.-We're looking for internal sound, he has a usb sound card on the way until I can get it working.

I had the same problem two days ago when installing my new laptop. Lenovo support also could not help me. I have noticed that the PCI vendor ID and device ID match a Realtek 862 HD audio device and not the Analog Devices Driver you can find on Lenovo support site. So i just gave the realtek driver (after installing Microsoft patch) a try and guess: it worked! - curious that even Lenovo does not know which hardware the put into their devices.
Download this and be happy:

Yay! This worked. After fighting with IBM/Lenovo support I was pulling my hair out.

Thanks

THANK YOU!!!

I had come to the same conclusion as you, but the driver I got (off one of those free drivers sites) didn't work right, so I gave up! It works great!!!
