laptop hard drives come with only one year warranty now?

#1 Post by bigtiger » Thu Mar 15, 2007 12:55 pm

I browsed through some laptop hard drives in newegg.com. It seems that most laptop hds now come with only one year warranty. Does that mean outsourcing has killed the quality of modern laptop hard drives?

I hope laptop hard drives will not cause fire, like many lion batteries do now.

I noticed that too. However, most 2.5" drives on buy.com and zipzoomfly.com still read 3 years warranty.

Newegg claims Hitachi drives only have a one-year warranty, but if you check on http://www.hitachigst.com/ you will see that the warranty period is actually three years.

No, even on zipzoomfly, there are many HD with only one year warranty. Check it yourself.

I think I should trust what retailers say about the warranty. If newegg says 1 year, most likely, it will not be 3 years.

I guess one reason for the warranty degrade might be caused by the price war. They degrade it to one year and then reduce the price. what is that famous word?--you GET what you Paid for.
