FlexView SXGA+IPS?
The goal is also good color saturation and color accuracy. The LG-Philips SXGA+ Flexview is outstanding in this regard (for a laptop).

Lenovo are in fact still selling T60’s with both 14.1” SXGA+ displays and 15” SXGA+ FlexView/IPS displays, and even (at least) a single T60p with a 15" 1600x1200 UXGA FlexView/IPS display... more info here --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=40693

You bring up a good point here, which is one of the first improvements I noticed upon receiving my T60 and T60p a year ago with FlexView Displays on each. The 15" T60 being 1050 x 1400 and the 15" T60p being 1200 x 1600, these are indeed truly outstanding displays.Puppy wrote:The goal is also contrast and backlight uniformity.

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
I realize this is an OLD THREAD ... but I've got a T60 with the 1400x1050 that is getting close to time for an upgrade for CPU reasons.
My issue is that I'm trying to find out what the ... GAMUT ... of the 1400x1050, IPS is. I want to know this so that as I try to decide which screen option to utilize for when I do upgrade ... so I'll have a sense of whether it will be a small or large gain/loss in GAMUT in my next display ... or something roughly the same.
Overall, I've been pleased with my T60 display. I specifically bought it as the LAST of the 4:3 displays I could find ... but as my Photoshop skills and files sizes have progressed, the CPU just isn't up to the task at hand anymore
and my 4:3 is likely to be relegated to backup duty.
So, can anyone tell/re-direct me to some reference of what the 15.0" TFT IPS display with 1400x1050 resolution has for its ... GAMUT?
Thanks.

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
Thanks ... I'm a bit surprised to see the Gamut % that low.
so a move to a display with a 60% of aRGB Gamut would NOT be a step backwards, and a 95% aRGB Gamut would be a significant difference.
Did I read that right?

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
I hope that you read the article with attention. It clearly noted that the backlight was dim and most of the T60's with IPS are newer than T42. You can also buy new UXGA IPS panel from the marketplace that has very good brightness.

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
Yes, I did try to read the article carefully ... realizing that it was the T42 and not the T60, so it left me with some concerns as to how well it represented my current screen.
My T60 screen is a bit on the dim side of theings when I get strong windown light coming into the room, so that isn't something that I'm not already a bit aware of. But, it's not that I'm thinking about getting a T60 ... I've already got mine and the display has been pretty good for me ... so when I make the move away from my T60 (for more CPU reasons) I'm trying to make sure I understand (emperically) what my T60 display currently is as a baseline for my deciding what I want/need in my next one.
I'm thinking I'd like an RGBLED backlit display (95% gamut), but my wallet says something REALLY different ... and I'm questioning the NEED for one for one if a WLED (60% gamut) would still be an improvement over my current (40% gamut) ... assuming that the T42 gamut info is representative of my T60. Combine that with reports that the RGBLED is TOO BRIGHT when trying to calibrate it to a 90-120 range ... makes me think that the 1920x1080 FHD WLED is my target display.
Of course, it would be easy if I could just walk into a store and LOOK at a WLED vs. RGBLED to see if it really made a $$$ difference for my needs/wants, but that option doesn't exist.

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
Have you considered modding your T60 with a T61 board? in which case you could go with a Penryn class C2D 2.6ghz or C2X 2.8ghz and 8gb ram.
Finding one with reliable discrete graphics would be expensive, but the boards with Intel graphics are pretty cheap.

In my search for a T61 4:3 14" motherboard with Intel graphics they were quite expensive... minimum $125 + shipping costs.TuuS wrote:Have you considered modding your T60 with a T61 board? in which case you could go with a Penryn class C2D 2.6ghz or C2X 2.8ghz and 8gb ram.

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
Compared to a T61 board with discrete graphics... specifically one that's been rechipped by Lenovo, as they didn't make any 4:3 with the redesigned gpu that I'm aware of... so you need a rechipped board... that's close to $600 from what I'm told.Backslashnl1 wrote: In my search for a T61 4:3 14" motherboard with Intel graphics they were quite expensive... minimum $125 + shipping costs.
Suddenly $125 doesn't sound bad at all, but I've seen used intel boards selling for less then $100. Saw a couple on ebay for under $90 this week.

Funny, compared to $600, yes, $125 is cheap. I compared with a T60 4:3 Intel graphics board which I got for $39

Re: FlexView SXGA+IPS?
Actually I found the allusive urban myth, a 4:3 board (nos) that is new in box, manufactured with a new GPU chip from 2010. Naturally such a rare board isn't going to be cheap, but it's no where near the cost of the lenovo refurbished boards and is much better as it's an original IBM replacement part that's been sitting on a shelf for years in some corporation. It's the perfect option for an ultimate frankenpad.Backslashnl1 wrote:Funny, compared to $600, yes, $125 is cheap. I compared with a T60 4:3 Intel graphics board which I got for $39
However I do agree if performance isn't an issue then you can't go wrong with a $39 T60 board.
