T30 won't charge battery

#1 Post by rgschroeder » Thu Mar 15, 2007 3:45 pm

Hello to all,
after feeding my T30 with a mix of apple juice and mineral water, it will not charge its battery, actually the battery discharges even while the laptop is connected to power. The battery does not seem to be the problem - swapping the battery to another T30 got this battery charged, so it is most probably not a problem with the battery. The T30 consumes about the same amount of energy as before the accident, the operating time is about the same as it was before the accident.

Now my question:
Are there any fuses on the Motherboard I should check?
Is there a special charging circuit or a pcb that has suffered from the accident?
If nothing else helps, Iwould buy a new (used) MB.

Thanks in advance for your help
Rolf, Bonn
P.S.
I got the keyboard working again by cleaning it in water (warm water with no detergents and dried the keyboard in a baking oven at a low temperature

The biggest thing you can try is removing the motherboard and looking to make sure there is not visibly a short. You can test the fuses in an array from the power jack and battery terminals with a meter, but I doubt that it is the problem. Most of the time, this is the symptom of a fried component on a motherboard. If you get desperate, you can try to wash it with a damp washcloth, but watch out for caps (capacitors), and make sure it has no power (It's a good idea to remove power while it's in the BIOS, to try to drain some of the components). Even if you can't get it running, I'd advise selling the motherboard. They go for quite a bit on ebay, even when they are broken.

Sorry for the bad news, let me know how it turns out!

Is it a pure apple juice or a sugar added apple juice? Do wash out the sugar content thoroughly with very diluted alcohol. Do NOT use strong alcohol because it will corrode the metal components in the motherboard. And dry the motherboard with a hairdryer using the coolest temperature. Hope it works for you. :-)

I *DO* remember that day when i spilled coke onto my pants and inside my pants is my new PDA which is not even 1 month old and no matter what i tried, it does not work. :-(
