Where to buy replacement LCDs?

#1 Post by hoplite » Fri Mar 16, 2007 10:16 am

I was walking to work in the snow and slipped on a curb and landed on my laptop and it damaged 1/3 of the LCD. Not very pleased about that.

Does anyone know a good (read: cheap and reputable) online vendor to buy replacement LCDs from?

I've looked around online but wanted to know if anyone had any input.

Which IBM is it, your T60 or R40?

I found this, but I am sure you already saw it online. They feature IBM:

http://www.lcds4less.com/

This might be a good one too, choose your model:

Edit: I have done searching for this before, for Apples and Dells etc. (My college friends are always smashing their LCDs by accident) Parts costs are usually at least $300, more towards the $400 mark usually. I am interested in the outcome of your problem, keep us posted.

I just checked lcd4less and screentekinc web sites and found out that they have the same physical address but different phone numbers.

Interesting. I have heard of a few computer companies doing this, usually hearing of poor customer reviews that go along with them. Ill keep looking.

I've bought a couple pre-owned LCDs off eBay. This is a crapshoot, but for ~$100 vs. $400-500 for a new one, I can lose a bet or two and still be ahead. I think most sellers guarantee the screens to not be DOA, but the real risk is that the backlight is near end of life. The screens don't seem to "wear out" other than this problem.

And once you've done it once, swapping in a new panel takes all of 15 minutes, so if you have to do it every couple years, no big deal.

What thinkpad is this for? I have an LCD form a T21, (mint- but may have bad backlight--or inverter- no spots) I sold the base unit before I could test.

It's unfortunate I'm no more in Tokyo.... there is at least one store specialized in thinkpad parts. They have a lot of lcds, and prices are well under 100$.

With 400$ you could have bought another R40, very likely

(sorry, actually I'm of no help)

Try this company:

http://www.teksrv.com/

They sell on eBay, but also have web-site. They are a large ThinkPad shop in Raleigh, and although they may not be the least expensive, you will be very happy with their service. They are TP freaks, just like all of us!

I was quoted $99 for a refurbed screen replacement for my T20 from them, $199.00 for a completely new screen. Have purchased parts from them in the past with great success.

Thanks! I missed this post. I'll give them a lookup.

Cheers.

I have almost all the parts for Thinkpads T40 and up, X40 and up.

My prices are not "deal" cheap; but I always stand by my product and provide excellent service.

In the end you get what you pay for.

eBay is the best place for screens.
