problems with my new X31

#1 Post by alfio » Fri Mar 16, 2007 5:44 pm

hi all

i'm having a problem with my brand new X31 (urghhh!). if i'm running on batteries and plug it back in, i get a blue screen saying something about uneven power (or something to the effect, it's hard to see because it flashes on off really fast and it reboots the machine). any ideas?

To see the error message in Windows XP:

Right click on My Computer, then Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery (Settings); turn off "automatically restart".

must have been a freak thing because it hasn't happened again.

what is happening, and i can;t seem to figure out, is that battery maximizer doesn't show the battery information but instead shows the battery in gray (as if the battery didn't register at all). i've (re)installed the latest version of battery maximizer but it's still showing it in gray. ideas on this?

Have you done a complete discharge cycle?

is the battery an oem battery? Though you bought it brand new but laptop probably isn't factory sealed?

And I dont think its the battery maximizer program as it's just a program to help you on power management. However, unable to identify your battery could be because its an unknown battery of some sort.

i take this to mean letting the computer run on battery until completely empty, right?

yes, i agree, it seems to be a problem with identifying the battery. in fact, i'm certain it doesn't recognize it because going into 'stand-by' in XP is not an option (even when running on battery power!). i will try draining hte battery and seeing what happens at that point. any other suggestions?

That's right. Disable the standby/hibernation when battery is running low and let it run completely to zero.

Does Access IBM > ThinkPad Configuration > Power Management > Battery Information tell you anything about the battery?
