Dead Pixels on T60P IPS?

#1 Post by gene303 » Sat Mar 17, 2007 9:54 pm

Guys,

Who here has dead or stuck pixels? How many? How are you dealing with it? Have you tried to have your display replaced? Thanks.

I have been following your other thread. The latest "dead pixel" you describe might actually be a stuck pixel that you can set right by running some programs like Dead Pixel Buddy (just google for it). I do not know how severe your other dead pixels are, but you can try running this program to see if they go away.

As to your question in this thread, I have a 15" SXGA+ panel on my T60 (HYDIS). The laptop was bought last year) and I have not had even one dead/stuck pixel on mine till date. The dispay is brilliant on ym machine (touchwood!).

Gator,

Thanks for the feedback. I've tried all the seizure promoting software out there and I've given my baby a shiatsu as well all to no avail. The red one is a stuck pixel, or two, hard to see on the uxga. Now that I was in the mood I inspected my screen very closely again and I have found yet another red stuck pixel, this one smaller than my second find. So, my final tally thus far is a cluster of what is at least four dead pixels and another two separate stuck pixels. I kind of gave up on the other thread and was simply looking for others like me so that I can feel better about it. I'm a perfectionist, a bit OCD, and I feel terribly guilty beefing about a few dead pixels which really shouldn't impact my work and I'm currently trying to get myself to ignore them, but you know how it goes. The harder you try not to think about something ....

I understand your postion. I'd be bothered with dead pixels too if I had any on my laptop ... I have read posts here that say that some stuck pixels can be set right by applying light pressure on the LCD panel itself. Take some wet wipes (50% isopropyl alcohol ones) and wipe the area where you have stuck pixels with gentle pressure (not too much, you know by now since you have owned a thinkpad before) for a while to see if the stuck pixels go away. Just search for this here on the forums and you'll see many posts.

Thanks gator, but I've already done the rubbing trick. Thats what I meant when I jokingly said that I gave my baby a shiatsu . . . a shiatsu is a type of massage.

The Thinkpad dead pixel policy is quite hard to qualify for, you need about 9 or something. They won't replace for just 1 dead pixel.

Here's the IBM site that explains the policy:

Yesterday, I noticed a dead pixel near the center of my screen (14") on a 9-month-old T60. I rubbed it, it eventually turned red, and today the pixel works fine :D

DPB is cool.

How long and how hard did you rub it?

The rub was brief and mild. After rubbing there was no change, but a couple of hours later it went from black to red. It would have probably fixed itself if I hadn't touched it.
