Dropped wifi connection in condo?

Hi all,

I'm living in a condo and I have a T42 2373-3UU. I have the IBM a/b/g built-in wifi card. I'm using the 3.1.102.23 driver (latest, I think), and I have a Linksys G router connected to a cable modem.

Every few minutes, I get disconnected and I have to manually reconnect. I assume that there are various sources in close proximity interfering with my signal ie. other wifi networks, microwaves, cordless phones, etc. Is there anyway I can set up my windows networking/wifi card to reconnect automatically everytime the signal drops?

Also, is there any other way I can boost my signal short of buying an ad-on wifi card or doing a hardline connection?

Disable all encryption/security and make sure "802.11x authentication" is not checked. Then see if you still get disconnected.

is it possible there is a nearby network broadcasting on the same channel? I've heard that can create problems for one (or both).

I had a similar problem and called Linksys.
They suggested that I remove all security. Change channels, see if it connects OK - and if it did add security back. This did the trick. I do not know why security had to be removed before chamging channels but the tech support person stated this was better.

It was probably 802.11x authentication. It re-authenticates every 5 min, or so, but sometimes doesn't work too well (not really sure why)???
