Picked up a new battery for my Z60t: How to optimize it?

#1 Post by o'bluetouring » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:49 pm

Hi,
I originally purchased my Z60t in January of 2006, and my battery just died (irreparable error) a few days ago. The 1-year warranty on the battery just expired so I'm forced to buy a brand new one from Lenovo. Since the battery isn't cheap, I would like to use this new one for way more than just 1 year, so I'm wondering how can I optimize its life.

First of all, how long should I charge it initially? Is it like 12 hours or so for other consumer electronics? Can I use it while it's charging initially or turn the computer off? Second of all, due to the nature of my work, I am constantly in front of my Z60t (plugged in), and I need to bring it to the field at least 3~4 times a day, and the duration can range from 5 minutes to 1 or 2 hours. After I come back from the field, I will then plug it back in to the outlet and let it charge. For my situation, should I adjust the charging threshold to like 30% or lower? Because I've selecting the "optimal" setting under power management, and it still recharges even it's 95% full.

By the way, after 1 year of using this laptop, the cycle count was about 100 before it died. Is that high?

Thanks very much for the help!!!

sincerely,

Don Kuo

Second battery, dead again within 3 months

#3 Post by corto » Thu Mar 22, 2007 1:02 am

I just got a new battery from Lenovo due to an irrepairable battery error about 2-3 months ago, right around the end of my year warranty.

Now I am getting the battery error message again from Lenovo's message center. Could my battery possiby have died this quickly?

I've had it set on the 'automatically optimize for battery lifespan' the whole time. Looking like that was a bad idea.

Are you sure it is the main battery...or is it the internal battery? My Z61t reported a battery error (internal) only once. Never again did I see the error. Just some kind of fluke for me.

Go back to the message center and confirm if it may have been internal. Either way, it is a warranty issue.

Good luck.

I got similar messages on my Z60m. I've ignored all of them.
