Lowest wattage possible with x40 1.2 LV

#1 Post by nightyyyy » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:57 pm

Hello,

trying to maximize battery lifetime i minimized whatever power drain i could find.
My battery wattage now hovers between 7.17 and 7.34 watts, the lowest value i have witnessed was 7.05watt

Wireless off
bluetooth off
Ethernet disconnected
Brightness 0
RMclock set to 6x at 0.732v

What are your recommendations to save even more energy?

Yours,

Nighty

Have you tried enabling hard drive spindown? It's a checkbox in Notebook Hardware Control (NHC).

If you don't want to have to spin down your hard drive, get a Hitachi 5400 RPM one as they have extremely low idle power usage according to http://www.storagereview.com/articles/2 ... ook_7.html. The power usage at idle is half that of the Seagate Momentus.

Incidentally, my R40 gets down to 6.55W with the drive spun down, wireless off, CPU @ 0.756V and display at 0 brightness. That reads at about 9 hours of rather useless running time - it normally sits at around 9.30W with everything enabled and the brightness set to 5/7, which gives me a much more usable 6 hours.

Thanks for your advice, i will try NHC instead of RMClock and report my findings later!

@Terrahawk: The Momentus is built into my main notebook, power is not an issue as i rarely disconnect the Travelmate. I chose the 80GB 5400.3, because the .3 is a 1platter design, which causes really low noise and heat, whilst, thanks to perpendicular recording, is really fast!

Hello,
i have come down to 6.6watts with NHC, which spins down the harddrive additionally. I have also installed tpfancontrol as a service, which turns off the fan for most of the time.
Thanks again!
