Upgrade R52 from Celeron M to Pentium M

#1 Post by scr71822 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 6:52 pm

I tried to install a Pentium M 1.6/1M/400 CPU inplace of the original Celeron M 1.4/1M/400 and the system powered up but no POST. Is it possible to upgrade the 1858-XXX models?

I think Celeron R52's can be upgraded to a point.

I believe I was able to use a Dothan Pentium M (the one's with 2MB cache) to upgrade a Celeron R52. It was a 1.6GHz cpu and it worked flawlessly. I also tried a 2.0 GHz with a 533MHz bus (the 1.6GHz had a 400MHz bus) and it booted but was flakey - it would freeze after a minute or two.

The motherboards ARE DIFFERENT between the Celeron and Pentium R52's. They use different Intel chipsets.

Good luck.

I'm thinking it has to do with core voltage. The P M 1.6/1M/400 is a 1.48 core volt using the .13 micron the C M 1.4/1M/400 uses 1.26 volts 90nm.

I think using a 90nm Pentium M with a 400 bus spped should work.
