Hi-
I am going to be backing up my HD image to a network drive, through either TrueImage or Rapid Restore, and I was wondering how it resores it if it is on a networked drive. Can it restore the partition that windows is on through a network? I was just wondering if the connection can stay open even if windows is gone. Also, does anyone have any ideas on whether Rapid Restore Ultra 4 or Acronis TrueImage is better? Thanks for your help-

Yeah.synapse wrote:I am going to be backing up my HD image to a network drive, through either TrueImage or Rapid Restore, and I was wondering how it resores it if it is on a networked drive. Can it restore the partition that windows is on through a network?
"Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore" comes with its own mini-Windows 2000 installation that can be started from the hard drive or the optional emergency recovery CD.synapse wrote:I was just wondering if the connection can stay open even if windows is gone.

Rapid Restore Ultra 4 is only a very rudimental recovery solution. It works quite well for me (in fact, it has already saved me from a lot of troubles!), and I like it very much, but Acronis TrueImage is by all means the better piece of software. RRU4 is very crude, not really user-friendly. One example: You have to download an additional command line tool in order to be able to delete individual backup sets.synapse wrote:Also, does anyone have any ideas on whether Rapid Restore Ultra 4 or Acronis TrueImage is better?
I do prefer RRU4, however. What I like most is its capability to automatically rescue all those new files that aren't in the latest backup set and would get changed or deleted by the recovery process in case of an emergency. I haven't seen such a feature yet in any other imaging tool.
Hi-
One more question... I tried to backup with RRU 4 and I selected network. The first time I did this I choose a location but then I decided to cancel it and do it later. Now when I try it no longer asks me for the location or username / password - it just starts the backup. I let it go and after about a min it tells me it is cancelling since it can't connect to the drive. I tried connecting through network connects and it works fine. Is there anything I can do about this? I tried restarting but nothing changes. Thanks again!
