R60 - Which RAM should I choose?

#1 Post by Fusion » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:48 pm

I have 1GB RAM in my R60 and I'd like to upgrade to 2GB.
I've been looking at the local PC seller's offer and I'm a little confused and I also don't know which brands are quality.
All of these sell at around 100USD.
Here's a few examples:

CORSAIR, Part No. VS1GSDS667D2
PC2-5300 1GB 200 pin SODIMM
Architecture: 128Mx64
http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/valueselect.html

A-Data
200-pin small outline DIMM Density: 1GB Maximum 5.3GB/s bandwidth JEDEC standard 1.8 +/- 0.1V power supply 32M x 16 or other component configuration CAS Latency:5 4 Bank Off-chip driver (OCD) impedance adjustment, and on die termination (ODT)

Zeppelin SODIMM DDR II 1GB 667MHz
Capacity: 1024MB
Type: PC2-5300, 200pin DDRII sodimm
Frequancy: 333Mhz (efective 667Mhz)

KINGMAX Venus DDR2
Kingmax DDRII 667 SO-DIMM Notebook Memory Features - 200-pin 667MHz DDRII - CAS Latency: 5 - Voltage: 1.8V, reduces power consumption by approximately 50%; outstanding heat dispersion features - Capacity: 1GB - High degree of compatibility and stability - Global lifetime warranty

KINGSTON
1GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM
Specs:
Standard 128M X 64 Non-ECC 667MHz 200-pin Unbuffered SODIMM (SDRAM-DDR2, 1.8V, CL5)

And then there's the 150USD Transcend:
Transcend 1024MB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM
P/N: TS128MSQ64V6J
Type: SODIMM DDR2
Capacity: 1024 MB
Freq.: 667 MHz
Type: Non-ECC
Other info: CL5

So I have no idea which is good for my IBM, can anyone help?

Btw: when I install it, should I let the PC company do it or can I do it myself?
I'm very familiar with repairing/taking apart IBM notebooks, I'm just not sure what the warranty would say.

It really shouldn't matter, as long as the specs are the same and match those of your current stick (speed and latencies).

Corsair is good. Some people swear by Kingston, others swear at it.

Out of all of the brands you mention, Zeppelin is the only one I have not heard of. As long as your seller will guarantee proper operation of each module and you run a memory diagnostic such as memtest86+ once it is installed, then you shouldn't have to worry too much.
