Help with Thinkpad T41p, motherboard died

#1 Post by mbugueiro » Wed Mar 21, 2007 7:09 am

Hello everyone, the last year I purchased a Thinkpad model T41p (used from IBM-Chile, with warranty 6 months), in December 30-2006 I was working and the laptop died, reasons: I have a usb-hub with 4 ports (external hard-disc, print, usb camera, mouse), the laptop began with problems with the hard disc reading, and, I made the mistake of disconnect from the electric power the usb-hub and reconnect with the usb cable connected to the laptop, results: the laptop died, not boot, nothing. Here in Germany the technical support told me that the mainboard should be replaced, the price? no way!, quite expensive almost the same purchase price (without warranty of course). The main board information is:

System board assembly, ATI M10
GL-128, Gigabit Ethernet with security
chip for T41p
v 2373-ANx, GEx, GGx, GHx, GLx, GJx,
GKx, GMx
v 2374-GGx
P/N 93P3313

My question is, can I buy for example a T41 or T40 used laptop and take the mainboard and replace in the T41p laptop? or each model of Thinkpad has a specific mainboard?, what can I do??

Thanks in advance, Mauricio Bugueiro

Just get a good one off ebay. Its what I did, I bought a pretty cheap T43P mobo after my T41 mobo went. The availablity kind of comes in waves on ebay though....

You can interchange any of the T4X mobos. T43s can be done but cant reuse some of your older T42 components(cpu, memory,pc card, ect....).

Id stay aways from the ones with the ATI 7500 32mb though they seem to be going left and right, Just my opinion.

The cpu can be used if you do the pentium m pinmod.

In my Z60t i have a 1.7GHZ dothan running @ 2.26GHZ and works without a flaw.

That mod sound like fun!

I wish the pics of the ZIF socket and wire insert were much larger nad higher res though. Excellent pics and illustrations of pin assignments though.

I think that pin mod is meant for dothan and doest work for banias CPU found in some T4Xs. Well It didnt work in my T43P with my old 1.6 banias from my T41. Wouldnt power on at all...

yea to do the pin mod your motherboard has to support 533 bus cpus. Then when you pin mod a 400 bus cpu it clocks it to 533 giving you the boost in performance. Basically you are just over clocking.
T41 w/SXGA+ screen :)

I miss my X30 :(

Yeah, but i have read that some people has cusses doing it to a 1.7ghz banias.

But if the mod fail on his T41p he will have to buy a dothan, the 1.6ghz is very cheap and will overclock to 2.13ghz which is very nice.

Speaking of CPU upgrades,

I am looking at upgrading my 1.7GHz Banias to a 1.8GHz or faster Dothan. What SL spec do I need to be able to look them up on e-bay? I know it's 400MHz FSB, but beyond that I do not know.

You need a SL7EN, here is one.

Great, thanks!

so is it a straight jump from 1.8 to 2.0ghz or is there a 1.9 model? While I am at it, what's the SL spec of the other Dothans that are compatible with my machine.

Thanks in advance.

Yep! There is nothing beetween 1.8 and 2.0ghz.

Also you can use the pentium 765 which has a speed of 2.10ghz.
