You need the drivers from the Intel site. Your T40 has a Intel 855 chipset. Go to Intel.com, drivers, chipset, notebook, and select the 855 series. It should be version 6.0.0.1 i think.

If you are using the standard IBM preload, you shouldn't have any problems - it should recognize the USB 2.0 ports just fine (?) If you are using a Microsoft OEM XP disk, you will need SP1 to recognize the USB 2.0 ports (the original XP release did not provide support for USB 2.0).

I have the same problem. I have installed clean OEM XP version with SP1. I have also installed the chipset drivers mentioned above. But still when I connect my USB 2.0 memory card reader Windows complains that I have connected high-speed device to low-speed port. Any further ideas how to fix this?

It might be related, but I still have in Device Manager one Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller with yellow a question mark in Other devices branch. I just can't figure out what device it is and wich driver it needs. Any ideas?

Actually I managed to solve the problem by installing the latest Intel drivers. Weird that the drivers from IBM's site won't work. With Intel drivers I have now working USB 2.0 and also the last device marked with question mark also disappeared.
