Finger print reader use with other software?
Finger print reader use with other software?
Hi
Is it possible to use the finger print reader for logging into other software and web pages? It would be great if it can be set up to log into web sites and other software requiring user authentication.

Hi.
You can totally do that by using Password Manager. It works with IE and Firefox (though you have to install an extension if you use Firefox... If you use Firefox 2+, you even have to modify the extension which is provided by Lenovo, but it's really simple and I can help you on that one), and with most applications that run under Windows.
For example, I use it to log into this forum, or into Lotus Notes

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll see if I can get things set up for the windows apps. If not I'll give you a buzz for some help.
I am a Firefox 2+ user so if you could post the change I need to make to the extension that would be helpful.
Thanks.

OK, I'm already stumpedXavier wrote:You can totally do that by using Password Manager.
I found an FF extension but it says it's for the Microsoft finger print reader. Is this what you used?

Wow, I started writing this hours ago but got stuck in a meeting.
First, here's what I wanted to say about the extension for Mozilla Firefox :
Password Manager is a program that comes as a part of the Thinkvantage Client Security Solution. If it isn't installed on your computer, you'll have to reinstall CSS and enable Password Manager when doing so. It will also create the folder and xpi extension I mentionned above.

Then, my answer to your latest post:Ok, so here is what you will need to do for Firefox to work with Password Manager :
Once the Security and PM software are installed, go to C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution and rename tvtpwm_moz_xpi.xpi to tvtpwm_moz_xpi.zip.
Open the zip file, and extract the file install.rdf
Open it with Notepad, and go to the line 24, which contains "<em:maxVersion>blablabla</em:maxVersion>". Replace the version number (the "blablabla" I wrote) with "2+".
Save and close the file, replace the one in the zip by the one you've just created, and rename the archive from tvtpwm_moz_xpi.zip to tvtpwm_moz_xpi.xpi
Then, launch Firefox, click File -> Open and browse to the xpi you've created above. Open it, it will install the Password Manager extension!
You're done

Thanks. I had CSS but it seems it was an old version as it didn't have the CSS path to the Firefox xpi. I've now upgraded to CSS 8 and the maxversion number had already been set to 2.0+.
It seems to be working although a little erratically. I'll need to play around with the settings a little and see how it goes.
