Differences between T4x series?

#1 Post by johnson » Thu Mar 22, 2007 1:37 pm

I have a T23 and might give it away and upgrade mainly for internal bluetooth, usb2.0, and wireless. Ive had this for two years and it didnt give me any problems until two weeks ago when it started locking up but I fixed it. Which model should I get?
T23 (2648-1U6) : PIII-M 1.13GHz : 512MB RAM : Hitachi 7K60 : ORiNOCO Gold Classic 802.11b : IBM 1394 CardBus
X31 (2673-Y13) : P-M 1.6GHz : 2GB Crucial PC2700 RAM : Hitachi 7K60 : 2915ABG : BT : Vyper XS Sleeve

The most decisive factor is your budget. How much are you willing to spend?
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Not set on a budget but if the performance difference is worth it to me then I won't mind saving a bit more for the better laptop. Right now im thinking around $600-$700 because brand new ones on ebay go for $800 with 3 year warranty.

I would vote for T41 or T42. You can find all sorts of problems with T43 on this board.

I would vote for T42 (which I have), because:

T42 was the first T-Series Thinkpad that can burn its own Product Recovery CD set.

T42 does not have T43's infamous 2010 hard drive error, hence T42 can use ANY off the shelf 2.5" notebook hard drive.

T42 has S-Video out, which the T6x-series does not have.

Certain non-p models of T42 can have 1400x1050 screen resolution, which the T6x-series *forces* you to buy the expensive p-models to have this "feature".

If you look around, old used T42 machines are very hard to find--a testimony to its usefulness...

Yes, I'm biased here...

Actually, there are plenty of non-p T60 models that have SXGA+ screens.

Thanks for the replies. Im gonna start looking at T42s and X41 tablets. What I really want is the X60 tablet because the 1.8" hdd on the x41 is a huge con. :P
