Will this work with two X31s?

#1 Post by ychandrani » Sun Sep 26, 2004 1:26 pm

Will this combination work with my x31? I want to get the Panasonic UJ825 and put it in an external Slim drive case from Mapower and share the multiburner with my brother who has a t42. The specs for each are here:

For the Panasonic:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... ory=BROWSE

For the external case:

Has anyone tried this combination? If yes, then what kind of experience have you had? And what software do you recommend for DVD authoring? But I'd prefer an external USB 2.0 or Firewire drive so that we don't have to have the ultrabase for the x31 in order to use the DVD multiburner, and it would work with the t42 as well.[/url]

That should work, but why not save yourself some money and buy the Liteon, which has everything screwed together, warranty, software and is tested to work. Unlike the Panasonic, you can get a program at The Firmware Page, which converts it to region free (RPC1) or resets the region counter.

If you are really set on the Panasonic because of say, DVD-RAM compatability, then suggest the 830, which at least is 8x

I purchased it from Newegg with the Mapower external case and could not get it to work. I thought the case was defective so Newegg sent me another one with the same issue. When installed Windows XP would not recognize the drive at all. Gave up and sent it back. I'm still looking for a better external case solution.

Thank you both. I have little time on my hands, so I am going to give the litesout slim drive a try. ($129 at newegg as tsammyc says).

I bought a uj-825 in an external usb2 case from dfwdepot.com quite cheap. Worked well, but i always intended to install it into a T30 anyway. So ended up selling the case on ebay.

Took a look at it. Seems quite nice, but its almost $100 more than the Liteon and didn't come with any burner software. Nice thing seemed to be a power cable that connected to the PS/2 keyboard port. Unfortunately, the X40 has no PS/2 port
