cd/dvd drive makes loud noise when it spins

Hi! I have an ultrabay battery, and the cdrw/dvd drive. I just took the battery out for the first time in a long while, and popped the cd drive in. However, when I pop a cd or dvd into the drive, every time the drive is accessed I hear a very loud noise. For dvds, for instance, I will hear this loud noise throughout the duration of the playing.

Here's the video (on my thinkpad, when the volume is MAXED the noise is about as loud as it is when I'm experiencing it) :

What is this/How do i fix it? Any ideas?

On my thinkpad, I can set CD drive's speed to "slient" in BIOS or Windows XP Power Management. If you have that option you can give it a try.

Except for playing music CD, it made the drive much much quieter.

it used to be very quiet. it didn't start making noise until after i popped it out and back in... this isn't normal noise, something is wrong.

edit: tried that anyway, and it did help a lot. like, A LOT. the noise is not nearly as loud as it once was. however this 'bad' not-normal noise i am talking about is still there, just not as loud. i'd still like to get rid of the noise.
