nushield installation for T60 15"

#1 Post by gator » Fri Mar 23, 2007 4:49 pm

My friend had bought a new T60 from lenovo and since he works in a mechanical lab with lots of dust/grease, he went ahead and bought a Nushield LCD protector (designed for the 15" T43). Cost was $18 shipped.

It was a pain in the neck to get it installed without dust inbetween the monitor and the sheet, but finally I got it done today (took me over an hour!). I did not open the display bezel and just inserted the protector as per the instructions in the gap between the display and the bezel. There are a couple of posts in the T43 area that say that the bezel has to be removed, but I was able to fit it perfectly fine without resorting to open a single screw. It doesn't move around as I feared it would, and is far easier to clean, since there is not much need to worry about scratches.

I am not a fan of the reflective displays, but the nushield is allright - it does not reflect as much as a glossy display (though you can see yourself typing), and offers decent protection against a dusty environment. Keeing the display brightness at minimum causes some trouble with reflections, but it is manageable. At mid-brigtness or more, there are no problems with reflections unless it is directly facing the laptop - even then it does not trouble you in anyway.

It does NOT improve the contrast/brightness in any way. As a protective shield, it is a good product, but DO NOT buy it for making your matte displaythinking that it will improve the color saturation or brightness. I made this post to clarify a few things - if this has been discussed before, the moderators can delete this.
