Files being automatically rearranged
Files being automatically rearranged
Lately, it seems that every time I restart my computer, all the files in every single folder are automatically rearranged by size, how do I stop it from doing this?
I'm not sure if this is related to it, but I like to view every folder as a web page, and for a while I've had problems where sometimes when I restart my computer every folder is suddenly changed back. Does anyone know what's causing this?

It's not actually rearranging the foles on disk, just the view of them it presents. You should be able to sort them anyway you like by clicking on the column headings in explorer. Click once and it will sort that column ascending, click again and it will sort descending.
As to why it's decided to make the default sort order by size, go into tools:file and folder options (or the equivalent in Win98) and see what the setting is. Or sort them the way you want and select to apply that setting to all files and folders.

Would that be View>Folder Options? I've checked there, but I can't seem to find anything relating to the problem. What are the column headings? Do you mean the Views button?

I've tried arranging files in folders by name then choosing the 'Like Current Folder' option in the view toolbar, but that doesn't seem to work.Or sort them the way you want and select to apply that setting to all files and folders.

I don't remember very much about w98.
Right click on desktop or viewing a folder go to submenu arrange icons and uncheck "auto arrange"
Order it at your own pleasure, then
Go to Tools -> Options -> apply to all folders.
It's more or less so. I'm not pretty sure. It's that way in XP

Auto arrange was already unchecked, I can't seem to find any difference between when it's checked or unchecked, what's auto arrange do?
Actually, I haven't really been having any problems with the files being rearranged on my desktop, just when they're being viewed in windows, or when I'm trying to open a file in Internet Explorer or Firefox.
