Issue with T40, not booting and cutting off when it does.

#1 Post by lithium726 » Sun Mar 25, 2007 2:51 pm

Alright, my GF's T40 has a booting issue. Sometimes it will not boot, just powers on, fan stays on, and screen stays blank. When I get it to boot (normally, by putting pressure on the area by the CPU and trying again) it will work sporatically, sometimes it will work fine and sometimes it will freeze up, needing a hard shutdown and then will suffer the same powerup symptoms as before.

I think the board has been flexed a little bit. Is the area around the CPU normally one that takes damage of a flexed mainboard? any particular component that will lose connection? I'm going to get it apart soon here and take a look to see if anything jumps out at me, but if not, does anyone have any insight? Thanks.

Most likely a motherboard failure. I think you could not gain too much by opening, as a replacement motherboard should be required. Have a look to get a used mobo replacement at ebay
