Your favorite computer game soundtracks?

#1 Post by K. Eng » Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:47 pm

I don't play computer games at all these days, but I still listen to the music sometimes when I'm working. I'm a fan of Blizzard's stuff in general.

My favorites:

(1) StarCraft -- I haven't played this game in years. Probably not since 1999. It's good background music, and if I'm extra bored at work I can just pretend that I'm in an SCV harvesting minerals to bring back to the base.

(2) Quest for Glory series -- pretty creative MIDI, and brings back a lot of memories of the days when bitmap graphics ruled and 3D acceleration was unheard of.

(3) WarCraft II and III -- I had a lot of fun playing these. WarCraft II over a null modem cable and WarCraft III on battle.net occassionally (I wasn't very fast at building stuff, so I often lost badly).

What're your favorites?

It isn't on your list, but Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit (PS One) is my favorite soundtrack so far. I love the music.

I know this might sound a bit strange, but my absolute favorite at the moment ist the menu-music in "Most Exellent Arcade" flash game on the Comedy Central website. Just so relaxing an perfect for me for doing university stuff.

I'm going to have to think what the NFS3 music was like. One of my favorite games as a kid.

I'll go with either Final Fantasy 7 or 8, but both are one upped by Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. That soundtrack is incredible.

I am kinda old school person and not a big game fan either so the only soundtrack of the game I remember and can name at this moment is Grim Fandango.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I always liked the "Hell's March" theme from Command and Conquer: Red Alert - struck me as a good driving song.

Of late, I've been playing through the music that goes with "Ur-Quan Masters" (originally Star Control II, its source was released by the creators to the public and a group has taken up the reins of porting it to modern systems) - some good stuff in there.

For those who remember SC2 fondly and haven't seen UQM yet, swing by http://sc2.sourceforge.net and have a look.
