A31p came with Win2K, now I want XP

#1 Post by bluto » Sun Sep 26, 2004 11:28 pm

My A31p (purchased June 2002) came with Windows 2000. In June 04, my hard disk crashed & I had to restore to a new HD using the IBM recovery CDs. Well... there's a bug in them* and as a last resort, I bought a Windows XP Pro update disc.

I'm ready to switch, but I like some of the stuff that seems to be available only through the IBM (Win2K) recovery CD. E.g., how you can press Fn+Space and switch resolutions from 1600x1200 to 800x600 and back. Actually, there's a bunch of other stuff, but the short & sweet of what I want to know is...

How can I switch OSs from Win2K to WinXP and keep all the goodies that came with the Win2K-based system?

Hello bluto,

I think, I can help You:
I do have an image of a xp-recovery for a A31P (English Version) I have no use for anymore, as I had to convert an english TP to a german one.

You still will have to hold a licence of XP from microsoft. If so, it should be no problem legally. Technically it is easy to switch.

Do send me a privat message, if You are interested...

now using an upgraded T60-61P "Frankenpad" (15"UXGA-LED Penryn 8GB 500GB/7200), and an X201/X230T (i7 8/16GB/500GB) Windows10
