4.2 lbs T41p for travel
I have a port replicator at work with AC adaptor, a AC/DC for home or car, and a 6cell batt i usually use, and a 9 cell batt at home. To reduce mass, I got the travel bezel for the optical drive, and a battery bay insert, so that I don't have to carry the battery in addition to my books.
I weighed the stuff on a scientific research grade scale. In the end, my T41p weighs only 4.2 pounds.
Ultrabay travel bezel 14.7g

Battery Bay Insert: 61.3g

CDRW/DVD drive: 202.9g
6 cell battery: 316.95g
Net savings: 443.85g, or 0.98 lbs
T41p with the inserts: 1905.2g = 4.20 lbs

All of the information is there (to the 0.1g!):
4.20 lb + 0.98 lb = 5.18 lb
It looks like it is a little heavier than the claimed 4.9 lbs.
As far as the $20 bezel, looking through the HMM for the T series, it looks like there may be another part available through IBM, part # 13N5108 (Travel cover for -xxE and -xxJ models). Through the parts purchase site, it is only $1.30, though I imagine shipping will inflate that price.
The question is whether or not it is a travel bezel...

The claimed weight of the T41p with 9 cell is 5.4 lbs, according to the TAbook. The 9 cell battery is 1.06 lbs/480g according to IBM (I didn't measure the 9 cell myself). 4.9 lbs is the claimed travel weight of regular T4x with 6 cell installed. T41p weighs a bit more than T41, for some reason. Perhaps the more numerous cooling ducts/pipes and different fan on the T41p is the main reason for the increased weight.CantStopNow wrote:All of the information is there (to the 0.1g!):

That's likely an error. The TAbook for T40s doesnt list different weight for the 6 or 9 cell models. If you care about, try weighing it yourself.eriqesque wrote:JaimitoBond wrote: The claimed weight of the T41p with 9 cell is 5.4 lbs, according to the TAbook. Can you guys *please* stop posting the cascading quotes? One of the bad things about this format is that all the messages are on the page. Unlike the previous version of the forum, there's no facility for seeing individual new messages. When one person quotes something and the next person just quotes the entire previous message and then the person after that just quotes the entire previous message, the signal-to-noise ratio on a page of messages becomes very, very low and creates a problem for those of us who aren't using a broadband connection.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Jane
