low virtual memory?? wtf

#1 Post by spiike » Mon Mar 26, 2007 1:02 pm

Ok so as of late my system has been kinda slow. I tried adaware, registery cleaner, defrag, avast full scan to no avail. My system has the ati x1400 with 1.5 gigs of ram.

CSS plays with 80-110 fps so I dont think the GPU itself is the problem, but now I keep getting a low virtual memory warning and the system hangs.

Anyone know of a cause for this?
Currently on Thinkpad T60 with Dinovo Bluetooth set.

Have you tried using Task Manager to see which process is using lots of memory?

You probably want to search for process explorer. This free tool will let you see in great detail what exactly is using up all the ram

using up all the ram

The problem reported is with Virtual not Real storage.

I suggest you use Task Manager, click on the Process Tab and then select the View option. Then "Select Columns" and ensure the Virtual Memory size option is ticked. This will alter the default display to show the VM size of each process. Click on the VM size column and it will sort it (ascending or descending). This is a quick and easy way to find the task with the largest VM Size.

Ahh yes, Process explorer shows all this by default, and oh so much more. It even has a replace task manager mode, tho I find it to be a bit large for that.
