Buying an X60s
Buying an X60s
Hello, i have a X41 and i feel that i have to replace it now, due to it's age.
However, is it worth to replace it Now or shall i wait for a new productline?. A X60s with everything i need costs 13500 kr which is about 1 891 USD.
I base my information of that it will be a new productline soon by observing: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_History
Will the new product line be a Extreme pricebump?
And general feedback on a purchase like this?
/ Great Thanks - Coral

Any currently available X60s would be much faster than your X41 because the X41 has a slow 4200rpm 1.8" HDD. Yes, the X61 is expected to be released within a few months but we don't know exactly when that will happen. The X61 should be somewhat faster than the X61s, though the difference between the X61 and the X60s should be much smaller than that between the X60s and the X41. Also, the X61 will most likely have a widescreen. If you prefer widescreen laptops, you should wait for the X61, but if you like the 4:3 aspect ratio, you should get an X60s right now because it might be your last chance.

But you also realize that Lenovo plans to eventually (which probably means within a year) switch completely to widescreens, right? That's what several forum members have heard directly from Lenovo employees. I agree that there's a chance that the X61 will still be 4:3, but the X62 will almost certainly be widescreen.ThinkFanatic wrote:but I hang my hat on no widescreen for the X61.

The statement that I heard a Lenovo briefing employee make was that "there will NEVER be an X Series ThinkPad with a widescreen display."
His rationale was that if you want widescreen, the new 14W T Series is only going to be slightly heavier than the X60, and it will have the same vertical dimension as the 12" 4:3, and come with an optical.
That isn't the sole basis for my post, and I suspect that there will be a 12W ThinkPad at some point, simply because it will likely not be economically feasible to support a 12" 4:3 screen when you are the only one in the industry with that panel in your laptop, but it won't be the X61.
If it is the X62, it won't likely even announce until 2008. The rest of the TP product line will have both 4:3 and widescreen options for the next 9-12 months as well, and I would expect the same from the X if/when it goes wide.

If it has SXGA+, that would be fantastic.ThinkFanatic wrote:The statement that I heard a Lenovo briefing employee make was that "there will NEVER be an X Series ThinkPad with a widescreen display."
Sweet! I was planning on saving money for a $2.5K Panasonic Y5 (14.1" SXGA+, 3.4 lbs, internal DVD burner), but if the 14.1" WSXGA+ T Series is really going to be just "slightly heavier than the X60", I would rather get that!ThinkFanatic wrote:the new 14W T Series is only going to be slightly heavier than the X60
