How to block a number with Verizon wireless service?

#1 Post by Turbo Audi » Mon Mar 26, 2007 8:12 pm

I got a Verizon phone service a few weeks ago. Recently a few times a day an "Unavailable" call would come through. Only once has the person on the other end answered me. Today she said "Hi Chiara would you like to refinance?"

Before I could politely tell her this is not Chiara (or tell her off), she hung up. I also got a Text message asking the same thing! This sux! What do I do, change my number...again!?

Cell phone spam, ugh

At least you got a human (once). A co-worker in the next cube over keeps getting FAX calls on his cell phone! I think those are also caller ID blocked.

A couple of weeks ago I got 8 or 9 Picture Mails (I've got Sprint) and several voicemails. The pictures were viewable online as my phone is from the stone age and can't do data or view graphics. All of the calls were unintelligible; either it was not english or just random noises/voices. It sounded like somebody was playing with a cell phone at a store and randomly dialed my number and sent several pics.

Unless you get a phone number where the calls are originating from, there's not much you can do.

edit: From Verizon's web site:
support.vzw.com wrote:Neither Verizon Wireless nor any other wireless provider is able to block specific numbers from your wireless phone; however, we are able to block all incoming calls. We strongly recommend that you utilize your Caller ID feature to screen your incoming calls. This way, you will be able to ignore unknown callers at your discretion. If the unwanted calls persist, we encourage you to change your wireless number.

Ok, thanks Ray. I'll hope for it to end soon.

I have Sprint too and last year my cell phone started getting several text messages a day, from numbers I didn't even know. I called Sprint and had them disable the text message feature from both of our cell phones, however I still kept getting them. I had to call Sprint for 9 months in a row for them to credit these text messages charges (you pay to receive a text message too) some months being over $25! They disabled both the text message and internet options on our cell phones, and had their tech dept. write special programs (??) for our service to try to stop these random text messages, but they still got through. Finally I changed my cell # and have not received one; but the tech guy at Sprint said that all phone service companies are having a heck of a time with spam calls and text messages, sort of like people who find joy in sending internet viruses.
