My X60 experience

#1 Post by dwhatfield » Mon Mar 26, 2007 8:43 pm

Howdy,

I received my X60 today....DHL dropped it off. Considering the packing date on the box was 3-16 it is pretty fresh =)

Spec wise....1706 KEU, Core2Duo T5500 1.66. Came standard with 1 GB ram, XP Pro.

I also ordered a second 1 GB stick, and a 100gb Seagate 7200 rpm drive for it. Immediately after unpacking, I added the memory, and pulled the stock 60 GB drive for the Seagate. I then proceeded to install Vista Business.

I installed Vista using the usb flash drive method. It took about 5 minutes to do so. I recommend this method highly.

I did not download any drivers from Lenovo initially...wanted to see what worked/did not work. Everything was working, however.....

The temp issue under the right wrist was VERY apparent. I was astounded as to how hot the wristrest actually got. I read some of the threads on this forum about this issue, and for a while I contemplated calling support on this. Then I decided to install the Lenovo drivers/software to see if it helped.

Downloaded the Thinkvantage System Update, and downloaded only drivers, Access Connections, Power Manager, the hard disk shock utility, and Presentation Director. After installation and a reboot, the temp difference on the wristrest was simply amazing.

So, as others have pointed out, there is something with Power Manager, or in my case, the standard Vista wireless drivers, that "fixed" my wristrest temp issue.

That is my story for the moment. I am tapping out this post on this; I must say, the keyboard is much better than the x40 in my sig...maybe it is me, but the travel, etc feels as good as anything I have had since the T23 in my sig.
T23 *2647-9NU* - A31p *2653-RTU* - X40 *2386-HCU* - T42p *2373-Q1U* - T60 *2623-KEU* - X60 *1706-KEU*

What keyboard do you have on X60 and X40? NMB / ALPS?

I like the Thailand NMB on my T42 better than the China NMB on my X60s.
