Hi

What is a recovery CD and when can it be used? Can it be used if a hard drive dies?

Thanks

Generally speaking, the Product Recovery Disc set takes up about 1/2 dozen CD's or one DVD. There is a Startup boot disc for this set that is also called the Recovery Media CD. This disc boots up Rescue and Recovery but does not contain the Windows OS or factory software.
